Memory Project

Mt. Lassen Charter School students, teachers, and local artists create lifelong gifts for children in Puerto Rico who lost all their belongings when Hurricanes Maria and Irma unleashed total destruction on the archipelago in September 2017. Now many Puerto Rican children have no running water, adequate food, and lack other basic necessities. Given that children in such situations usually have few personal keepsakes left after the hurricanes destroyed their homes Mt. Lassen Charter School students, teachers and local artists have created portraits for five Puerto Rican children to provide them and their families with meaningful mementos of their youth. Mt. Lassen Charter has partnered with the Memory Project a charitable nonprofit organization that invites teachers and their students to create and donate portraits to children around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, death of parents, violence, and loss of their homes. In the course of their daily studies Mt. Lassen Charter School students are encouraged to practice kindness and gratitude. The Memory Project allows students to enhance their art skills and give to others who are in need. The link will let you view a video of the kids receiving the portraits the MLCS students and many other young artist created:
